Nick Vacco, Detail King’s founder, shared his thoughts about competition in the workplace in an article published on May 31, 2012 by Entrepreneur Magazine.
In When Employees Become the Competition, Vacco describes how you — the professional auto detailing business owner — can get past concerns about hiring and training an employee, only to have that worker turn around and run their own business in direct competition with yours.
Vacco’s advice to entrepreneurs includes information about the pros and cons of non-compete agreements. Still, most of his comments revolve around hiring employees who want to advance in your company, not necessarily engulf and devour it. He also says competition shouldn’t always be looked at as bad, adding that it keeps business leaders on their toes, pushing them to do better.
